Tommy Jenkins is Elder Emeritus of Grace Bible Church. He is a graduate of Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Sociology and of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree in New Testament. Pastor Jenkins founded Grace Bible Church (then University Bible Church) in September of 1969. The second Sunday after starting the church, he met Sue Anderson of Kansas City, Kansas, who began attending services. Her background was Southwest Bible Church in Kansas City, Kansas, and Moody Memorial Church in Chicago. Sue was a young widow at the time. She had met her first husband, a Navy pilot who was lost in Laos during the Vietnam conflict, at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago where they were students.
Following her first husband’s death, Sue moved to San Marcos to enroll in SWT. Tommy and Sue married a year later. They have four grown daughters. Joanna, the eldest, resides in San Francisco with her husband Jeff who is studying law at the University of San Francisco. Joanna graduated from The University of Texas at Austin and has been working on her doctorate in Classics at the University of California at Irvine. She is now Office Manager for the Alpha Pregnancy Center in San Francisco. Susanna is married and lives in Austin, Texas. She graduated from Philadelphia College of Bible (PCB, now Philadelphia Biblical University). She has taught in two Christian elementary schools and is now a busy housewife and mother of two boys, ages three and two. Her husband Hiran is a real estate Deanna (Susanna’s twin) also attended PCB. She works in Austin for The Sedona Group as a Business Development Specialist. Deanna and her ten-year-old son Alexei reside in Kyle, Texas. Lorianna, the youngest of the daughters, is a graduate of Point Loma Nazarene University where she majored in Business Administration. (She also attended PCB.) Lori is a Business Consultant in the Aerospace industry and lives in San Diego, California. She is engaged to Chris Avery of Bath, England
Pastor Jenkins wrote a weekly newspaper column for the San Marcos Daily Record titled, “The Bible for Today,” for nine years. The articles usually concerned social and ethical issues as well as apologetics. Many of his articles continue to be reproduced and are available at GBC. Pastor Jenkins retired from Grace Bible Church in September of 2002 after being an elder of the church for 33 years. He remains on the Board of Elders as Pastor Emeritus. In the spring of 2004, Tommy and Sue moved to Hardin, Montana, and began a new ministry to the Crow Indians. They returned after five years and Pastor Jenkins now serves as a pastor/elder of GBC.
